Anne and I are seriously chuffed at the news of Kellivale Estate 2017 Nebbiolo Rose being awarded a Bronze medal at the illustrious Sydney Wine Show this year.

We knew our fruit was great when we picked it and we would like to tip our hats to our brilliant team at Naturaliste Vintners (Remy and Bruce) for helping us make such a delicious drop!

In addition, we are so proud to have made the highest ranking WA Rose, according to the judges at the 2018 Sydney Wine Show and we are in incredible company with our fellow WA bronze medal winners, Willow Bridge Estate and Deep Woods Estate.

Capelberry Cafe was the setting for our first ever wine tasting event for Kellivale Estate Winery. The night was a sell out, with about 50 people attending the evening!!!

I was lucky enough to be hosting the event, I talked through our range of wines, the history of our vineyard, and what we are planning for the future.

Capelberry expertly matched all our wines with incredible food, and by all reports the night was well received, and a great success.

We also took the opportunity to launch our Wine Club.

Our Wine Club members will commit to purchasing wine on 6 or 12 month basis, in exchange for a 20% discount on our wines.

We were extremely humbled at how well our wines were received by such an incredible bunch of local people.

We appreciate the support we get from the Capel community and know that this wine event will be the first of many.

Kellivale Estate attended the Geographe Wine Show earlier this month. It was a wonderful night, enjoying the company of some terrific wine makers and growers from our local region.

One thing is for sure, there are some seriously good wines being made in the Geographe Region.

This year, Kellivale Estate decided to enter a selection of wines into the wine show for judging. Turns out this was a bloody good idea!!!

Kellivale Estate walked away with a SILVER medal for their 2008 Nebbiolo and a GOLD medal for their 2017 Nebbiolo Rose!

We are so excited about these results.

Here's what the judges had to say:

2008 Nebbiolo: (SILVER)

Smells quite lush and forest pippy. Soft easy tannins in here, tannins are fine and slinky. Easy going forest fruited.Floral, plums, sarsaparilla, bright intensity, lovely plush palate, firm puckery tannins match fruit concentration, A smart wine.

2017 Nebbiolo Rose (GOLD)

Brilliant very pale salmon, subdued initially, floral, lanolin savoury lift follows with strawberry notes, tea leaf, Fresh palate with talc texture giving way to creamy texture, bright fresh slatey acidity, savoury and wood spice, Hint of red fruits, lovely delicate rose with good length and structureVery pale, almost yellow - it packs a bigger punch than it promised! Delicate colour delicate nose bath salts mineral citrus flowers drier style with good acidity and zesty crunch citrus white peach flavours linger.

So there you have it! Straight from the judges mouths.

We have worked hard to make our winery a success, Receiving acknowledgement in the form of a Gold and Silver medal in our local wine show is a terrific feather in our cap,

We are one proud bunch at the moment.

Hi everyone, well the pruning at Kellivale Estate is well advanced, We have been busy.

Our Sangiovese has thrown its new buds and is away. “Buddy’s Block” is finished and bursting everywhere, as is the Nebbiolo. The Tempranillo is almost pruned……

SPRING is here!

I had a sneak peak at the 2017 Viognier and Vermentino last week…….very, very nice, if I say so myself. And the 2017 Nebbiolo Rose’ is quite sensational.

We are excited to be entering these wines in the Geographe Wine Show this year, and are crossing fingers for a good result.

For those ofyou that know anything about me or my family, know that we are passionate about making wine.

As a quick trip down memory lane, we planted our first grapevines almost 20 years ago, and have been making wine since 1999. I will confess, we have had mixed success over the years - a combination of weather conditions and learning.

Nonetheless, throughout this time we have been determined to perfect the art of making wines that are less known around the Geographe Wine region. Nebbiolo, Albarino, Savingin to name a few. Distinctly different wines.

This year we decided it was time to ramp up our business operations. So, we made a few changes.

Firstly, we've changed our name from Geographe Wines of Capel to Kellivale Estate, in honour and loving memory of our first daughter Kelli. This was really a no-brainer for all that were involved in this big decision.

As a result of our name change, we've got new wine bottle labels, that also have special meaning for us.

Anyone who has visited our vineyard would have seen our little blue tractor that has worked so hard for us over the years. We thought it deserved pride of place on our bottles. We've also given a special nod to our much loved Sassy, our Queensland Cattle Dog, who ran the vines with us for many many years and in fact saved our son Daniel's life, when he was set upon by an rampaging male kangaroo. We owe Daniels' life to Sassy, so we think she rightly deserves a place on our label.

We're a sentimental bunch, us McDermotts!

The great news is that this years vintage is a triumph, and I am very eager to get it bottled, so you can start sampling the fruit of my labour. We will have some beautiful Nebbiolo Rose ready in a few months, (just in time for Spring!) and some other luscious reds to keep you warm over winter.

We are genuinely excited about this new bold step we are making and there are more exciting things to come for Kellivale Estate this year and in the not so distant future. So please, stay tuned!

If you've been browsing in our new online bottle shop, you might have noticed that our 2015 vintage is called "Jack's Pick".

Jack was my dad, one of nature's true gentlemen and a top bloke to boot.

John "Jack" McDermott was an inspiration to me and Anne, his grand kids and well, basically anyone who ever came in to contact with him! Jack was a integral part of making Kellivale Estate the winery it is today.

Sadly, he passed away during our 2015 harvest.

As a tribute to the great man, our entire 2015 vintage has been named in his honour.
